informed by the critical environmental problems that plague many parts of the african landscape, photographer fabrice monteiro, costume designer doulsy (jah gal) and the ecofund organization have collaborated on a harrowing series of photographs to visually represent the urgent ecological issues. ?the prophecy? project, shot at ten locations in senegal, features intricately costumed figures interacting with the astonishingly-polluted surrounding scenery. their meticulously built garb is partially made from garbage and debris found throughout the site, reflecting the atmosphere and state in which each destination was found.

What struck me while reading this is we all battle this to some degree , children, family and close friends all scattered around the world. But the battle we face doing that is nothing to those in the military whose loved ones are in harms way and far from our arms.

“You keep close what you value most. And to some, suffering and separation are so precious, so much a part of their identity and so familiar that they struggle resigning their internal torment to love and joy and freedom.” – Amy Larson, amyjalapeno.com

“When something feels right or good or when you experience an ease you have never felt, it is common for a certain amount of psychological discomfort and frigidity to follow. You may hesitate and question the ease, because you have picked up somewhere along your life that meaningful things are only those you have worked the hardest for. Yet some of the best things in life arrive naturally, with immense joy and without years of struggle.” -Amy Larson, amyjalapeno.com

Deep Vein

Shortly after graduating from college in the late ’80s, I moved to Minneapolis where a number of my fellow Oberlin alums had migrated. Three of them (Josh Feit, Jeff Tolbert and Laura Harada) had formed a strange pop band that traded drums for violin and cello. Another (Barry Madore) shared an interest  in music and cameras, so we teamed up with the local cable station to make a documentary about the Diary of Anne Frank String Quartet. I finally got around to digitizing it and breaking it into two parts so that Youtube can handle it. The video features interviews with all the members and live performances of their wonderful, haunting music. (And, yes, some of the early moments in the film are intentionally silent.)

THE STRATEGIC LEARNER

Very Few of Us - morguefile

For all our talk of authenticity and genuiness as positive and desired traits, we often fall rather short of being truly transparent and open.

While openness creates strong relationships and enhances leadership, we might want to think a little before we become completely open.

I don’t know about you, but I know parts of me that I will never knowingly or willingly share with anyone else, regardless of the relationship or situation.  My thoughts are not consistently charitable or kind, my inclinations can be more emotion-driven than is good for me, and I do not always act in my own best interests … and that’s just the stuff I WILL share.

Caveat:  You may be thinking right now “Why doesn’t he get some help for these afflictions?”, which is a reasonable question to ask, but more complex to answer than you…

Innovation is important in the entrepreneurial strategy processes to increase organizational performance. Innovation speed is essential to this performance as well, because when we define a new product or service there is a need to make it available to custumers fast to achieve first-mover advantages. In the February 2016 edition of the Journal of Business Research, Shan et al. (2016) also find in their research that higher innovation speed leads to superior performance.

To increase innovation speed it is necessary to understand how to create this speed and to achieve a sustainable organizational performance. Being innovative and proactive are important characteristics for an organization that relate to innovation speed. In order to create more speed it is necessary that innovativeness and proactiveness are guided towards specific goals. Both characteristics do not lead to more speed when they are spread over too many unnecessary initiatives. Also risk-taking, a characteristic that is often related positively to innovation speed, only leads…
